About this position:
This is a full-time, salary exempt position. Responsible for overseeing & managing approximately 20 staff members in our 25 bed critical access facility which operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The Director would be required to work, at a minimum, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, with additional weekend & holiday on-call required. Our number one priority is providing excellent patient care. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently licensed in the state of Indiana as an RN. Must maintain this licensure and provide any renewals or changes to the Human Resources Department.
- Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support certification per hospital policy. Must obtain BLS within 90 days of employment.
- Must possess and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Must obtain after 90 day orientation is completed.
- Two or three years related work experience/training with a Bachelor’s degree is desired; equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered. Master’s degree preferred.
- Possess and demonstrate good communication and customer service skills and pleasant phone techniques. Must demonstrate keen reasoning and problem solving abilities.
- Possess a desire and capability for educating nursing staff, patients, and families.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in a multi-task environment where interruptions may be frequent. Able to assess and command emergency situations and readily adapt to change.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as defined by hospital policy.
- Performs all duties and delivers all nursing care with an age-appropriate focus.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Plans and organizes activities in areas of responsibility to ensure that patient needs are met in accordance with instruction of physicians and hospital administrative procedures. Ability to provide quality nursing care both directly and indirectly.
- Plans, oversees, and participates in orientation and in-service training for new staff, present unit members, and cross-trained staff. Participates in teaching staff to improve their skills and develop their expertise.
- Responsible for the interviewing, hiring, retention and dismissal of all employees working within areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for development of the annual operating and capital budgets for areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for organizing and directing the services within the Universal Care Unit. Maintains the nursing services offered within accepted regulatory, state, and federal standards.
- Analyzes and evaluates nursing and related services rendered to improve quality of patient care and plan better utilization of staff time and activities. Directs and delegates management of professional personnel.
- Develops, reviews, changes any nursing policies and procedures in accordance with the current standard of care, regulatory standards, and all federal and state requirements and in conjunction with medical staff as appropriate.
- As a member of the management team, assists in formulating the long-range goals and plans of Woodlawn Hospital.
- Responsible for timely job performance evaluations including goal setting to enhance growth of the individual employee and will assure that all personnel working within areas of responsibility have current certifications and/or licensure. Ability to provide constructive criticism and set goals for improvement.
- Responsible for the Performance Improvement activities within areas of responsibility.
- Performs the functions of a professional nurse leader in assessing, planning directing, and evaluating patient care with an age specific focus for the areas of responsibility.
- Works with Information Systems and Informatics nurse to create, educate, implement, and troubleshoot documentation in the electronic health record. Ensures all regulatory and nursing standards are met.
- Responsible to ensure daily staffing needs are at the level to provide for safe, quality nursing care. Oversees the scheduling process through delegation to the House Supervisors.
- Collaborates and assists Swing Bed Coordinator and Case Managers.
