EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED or relevant experience preferred but not required.
- Demonstrates a commitment to a teamwork philosophy.
- Possess good/pleasant communication skills and proper phone technique as required handling various telephone and in-person communication with patients, patient’s family, guests, and other medical providers in a professional manner.
- Ability to read and understand documents such as diet orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in a multi-task environment where interruptions may be frequent.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as defined by hospital policy.
- Ability to adapt to variations in scheduling (including but not limited to overtime, work schedule changes or low census).
- Demonstrate ability to operate food service equipment.
- Ability to prepare/serve food in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Ability to serve modified diets as ordered.
- Desire applicant to have one-year food service experience, preferably in health care setting.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Act as the liaison between the patient/patient family and food service staff.
- Obtain patient’s food likes and dislikes/intolerances
- Communicate effectively patient’s information with all food service staff to maintain continuity in patient care.
- Meet with RD or Director of Foodservice daily, when they are available to discuss patient concerns.
- Notify RD or Director of Foodservice of any concerns, issues or requested educational needs of patients/patient’s family.
- Serve diets as ordered and per policy.
- Explain the menu to each patient and offer substitutes as necessary.
- Assist with patient tray line. As well as revisit and follow-up with patients after each meal.
- Deliver patient meal trays and to use scripting as per policy.
- Notify patient’s nurse upon delivery of meal tray to any patient that requires assistance with eating.
- Deliver nourishments/snacks at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and HS.
- Maintain a current and accurate patient cardex and tray cards.
- Inventory and maintain a supply of printed menus/forms in the foodservice diet office as outlined in policy.
- Notify nursing when Food allergies are not addressed.
- Complete weekly inventory as outlined. Including, check OB formula/diaper bags and restock as necessary. Additionally, stock infant formula/adult formula (for tube feedings) as ordered in CCU and Med Surg.
- Monitors and accurately documents food/equipment temperatures per policy.
- Assist in providing critically/terminally ill patient’s family with fresh snacks/beverages when necessary.
- Attend department meetings and/or in-services as scheduled.
- Completes Education as assigned on Health Streams.
- Cross train in Baking position.
