Laboratory
Woodlawn Hospital’s Laboratory department is central to the diagnostic process and provides important information regarding patients’ medical conditions. The hospital laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day with trained laboratory assistants for phlebotomy services and appropriately credentialed Medical Laboratory Technicians and/or Technologists to provide continuous coverage for all inpatient and emergency testing. Outpatient coverage is staffed 24 hours a day Monday through Friday and from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.
The Laboratory offers a full range of clinical testing services to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring their patients. Many routine and STAT lab tests are performed on-site. Pathology services are also provided by South Bend Medical Foundation. The laboratory at Woodlawn Hospital is accredited through the College of American Pathologists.
The Laboratory maintains ongoing quality control, proficiency, and quality assurance programs designed to objectively and systematically monitor and evaluate the quality of services provided. Testing is performed using state-of-the-art technology under the direction of a Board Certified Pathologist.
Patients coming to the hospital for Laboratory services must first report to the Main/Emergency Entrance to fill out the necessary outpatient registration paperwork. Laboratory testing can be done without an appointment. Before arriving at the hospital for testing, patients are asked to follow the specific pre-testing instructions given by their healthcare provider(s). Upon completion, most test results are autofaxed through the hospital’s computer system to the appropriate healthcare provider, who will then communicate the results to the patient.
