Biography

Dr. Debra Sanders grew up close to the community she serves. She is a graduate of Winamac Community High School and went on to Purdue University for her undergraduate degree. She went to Indiana University School of Medicine and did her residency at the University of Illinois-Peoria in Family Medicine.

She came to work for Woodlawn in 1991 as one of the first female physicians in the area.

“We are able to do so many services locally. Woodlawn Hospital takes very good care of patients. My patients many times request to go there rather than a large hospital because of our caring staff. Our nurses, physicians, techs, dietary, and housekeeping actually care about our patients who are our friends and neighbors.” She stated.

When asked what she loves about her specialty, Dr. Sanders shared, “I am now delivering my second generation of babies! I love following families through the phases of their lives. At one time, I was caring for five generations in one family. I take care of my neighbors, friends as well as the people who I go to church with, who teach my kids, and who I see at ballgames.”

She has been married to her husband Brett for many years and they have three grown children along with four grandboys. When she is not caring for patients, Dr. Sanders enjoys reading, gardening, and traveling.
